Important information about the level of contextualisation required for learning and assessment
For many of these units, students will need to inspect, implement or be observed demonstrating specific skills in a construction environment.Â
We have certainly made the resources flexible so they can be used by students who are employed or who are learning in a simulated workplace environment, but the assessments will require a higher level of RTO contextualisation than you might expect from, say, a BSB or IT unit. For example, in some instances you will be required to provide plans and specs that match the project the students will be required to complete. In others, students will need access to project documentation that reflects the simulated live site environment they will be learning and assessed within and you may need to update marking guidance accordingly.
We have provided additional guidance for trainers and assessors in our Toolboxes and we recommend that you review a sample unit before purchasing if you have concerns about the level of contextualisation that may be required.
About this qualification
This qualification provides a trade outcome in wall and floor tiling for residential and commercial construction work. The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as the specialist field of work, wall and floor tiling. Tilers work with materials like ceramic, glass, slate, marble and clay. They cut these materials and lay tiles on walls and floors, both interior and exterior. They may also add decorative touches to their basic work.
Occupational titles may include:
Tiler
Wall and Floor tiler.
State and territory jurisdictions may have different licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements.
This qualification is suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway.
Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.
What do I get?
A range of learning and assessment resources support each unit of competency. Click each resource type to see what is provided.

Trainer Guides
The Building and Construction Works Trainer Guides provide training content, student activities, delivery resources, links to videos, further reading and additional material to help guide delivery. Each Trainer Guide also includes assessment checkpoints – a self-reflection guide for students to check their readiness for assessment.
Trainer Guide Mapping
A detailed Trainer Guide Mapping is included for each unit of competency. It shows how each unit of competency is addressed by the Trainer Guide.
Student Guides
For practical, hands-on units, content is provided by way of demonstration, videos, practical tasks, further reading and class discussions. For the ‘human skills’ and more theory-based units, the Student Guide provides learning content, activities, links to videos and further reading, and additional material to support learning. Assessment checkpoints are provided for each unit of competency and the student is directed to the appropriate assessment workbook to complete their assessment when they are ready.
Learning Modules
As you know, there is repetition across a number of units in the CPC training package. To help avoid your students (and trainers) seeing the same content over and over again, we have developed a number of Learning Modules. These modules present information common across multiple units of competency. Some examples of modules include PPE, tools and equipment, planning and preparation, and clean up.
PowerPoint Presentations
Each unit of competency is supported by a PowerPoint presentation. The slides highlight key learning points.
Assessment resources
We also support you to deliver assessment by providing you with assessment resources that are user friendly, student and assessor focused and suitable for use in a range of assessment situations from the classroom to the workplace.

Assessor Workbook
Assessor Workbooks provide assessment tasks, observation checklists and marking guidance for each unit of competency. They also provide unit-specific advice on delivering assessment. They are designed for use with students who are being assessed in the workplace or simulated workplace.
Assessment Mapping
Mapping is provided as a separate document to show how each unit of competency is mapped to each assessment task.
Student Workbook
Student Workbooks provide students with assessment tasks, checklists and guidance on gathering evidence for each unit of competency. They also provide important information relating to completing training and assessment. They are designed to provide a clear and straightforward way for them to demonstrate their skills and knowledge in a workplace or simulated workplace setting.
Supporting resources
The Building and Construction Works series also comes with some additional supporting resources.

We progressively add material to the Plans Bank.
